I hope you had a beautiful Thanksgiving. Mine was a little different.
I had a chance to take a break. So off I went to watch a parade ....up really close.
NYC is such a beautiful place this time of year.
I had a ball, But there is no place like LA for me.
Glad to be home.
Can you believe Christmas is here already ??
Christmas has so many great memories in my life and is the heart of my faith.
I hope we all can find Joy, Peace, Family, and Music,
as we celebrate the real meaning this year.

Thanksgiving.....
Man, I'm counting my blessings.
So many things to be grateful for,
even during these very tuff times.
My kids are healthy and happy
and have found great partners in life.
My work has kept me busy 6 days a week.
I'm enjoying my Church family in Covina
and I'm livin in beautiful Southern California !
There's lots more...but I'll just stop for now.
I'm just a guitar player with a grateful heart.

Happy Independence Day !
Looking for a different way to spend the 4th ?
I spent mine on top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas ..What a view !
Heard some great music from a band at the Palms called Santa Fe.
The cats in the band play all the major shows in town and are THE BEST!!
I also enjoyed the Jersey Boys and the Clint Holmes Show,
checked out Carroll Shelby's Mustang Museum and oh, oh yea,
had to pick a few vintage guitars at Cowtown Guitars.
It's always good to get away.......Don't ya think ?

A New
year, and we are off and running !
In January the Mark Carter Project played a private party
at the Ronald Regan Library on MLK day....Too hip.
The band played right under The President's Air Force One !
I also played a solo show out in Palm Springs at a private
Country Club, as well as my weekly schedule .
( Gotta keep up that exercise program )
Now February is here and LOVE is in the air, baby .....
I will be at the Dal Rae for Valentines weekend.

Well here we are again, off into a new year and a new decade.
January found me in Palm Springs visiting old friends, making some new one’s and finding some good ol’ fashioned relaxation.
Then it was up to Portland to visit my son, his fiancé and play some “Gypsy Jazz” in the “Pearl District” downtown. There is nothing like enjoying music with your children. Listening or playing, its always been very, very, special for me !

Sweet memories.......1969....Do you remember ?
Woodstock, the Moon Landing, Credence Clearwater Revival ?
I was going to school in Brea Ca.and falling madly in love with the guitar.
I had a paper route and saved some money so my dad and
I could attend a Chet Atkins concert at the Fabulous Forum on July 20 1969
The world was watching Neil Armstrong, dad and I were watching Chet.
Fast forward, I took my son to see Chet 20 years later almost to the day !
Don’t tell anyone, but my best buddy John Anderson and
I played at the grand opening of the first McDonald’s in Brea
....talk about bookings!
Who would have known all these years later,
Brea had grown up and I would be playing my guitar there again ?

Hey friends, It’s been a while and I need to catch up!!
Work has been keeping me busy,
mostly teaching and the restaurant gigs each week.
January came and I took some time off and drove up the coast to Monterey.
The weather turned out nice and it was relaxing and fun.
February came by and I enjoyed another birthday
as well as Valentines Day at the Dal Rae.........nice !
March is here and I’m feeling a wee bit of me Irish bloodline!

Here’s the last tunes.
Track #9 "Old Days " is a tune I wrote as a funky jazz vehicle, in
tribute to Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs.Two of my favorite artist I enjoyed
while learning my craft, “back in da day “ This track features great Sax work by Sean Holt and once again Tim Redfield’s production is superb !
Track #10 “ City Of Angels ”. Inspiration for this tune came from my ongoing love affair with Santa Monica and that's where Tim and I did most of the work on this CD. Heading back home on the 10 freeway late at night can give you a beautiful view of our city, and a lot to think about.
The Oklahoma in me still gets lost in it all and once again I end up with a grateful heart.

My summer is as busy as can be, and my “savage tan “ is a fading!
The Mark Carter Project has been playing some cool shows in
Long Beach and some private events. Along with teaching, church and restaurants, I am keeping our Oil Companies very happy .....oh well.
I need to take time and thank the many of you that have picked up my latest CD “Smooth As Silk”. I am enjoying playing these tunes and working on more. Here’s a little more background on the CD.
Track #5 “Talk To Me Brother “is a fun tune I wrote to honor my
six brothers. As time passes we seem to talk more and more, though we live miles apart. Thanks for the love brothers!
Track #6 “Carnival Time”. I had taken a Carnival Cruise.
I thought I was going to get some rest......NOT.......what a party !!!
When we were recording this tune, Tim suggested taking this tune to Brazil. That idea sent this song on a party of its own.

Wow....I am way behind this summer !
Life has just been busy and I want to catch up with everyone.
So lets start with a couple of tracks from “Smooth As Silk”
Track #3 is the Smokey Robinson classic “Being With You”
When Tim and I were working on this CD We discussed so many
tunes that Smokey had written. But this tune has always stuck with me.
Tim did a beautiful job presenting this one with a whole new vibe.
Track #4 is a tune I wrote “ Funky Like Dat ! ”
Is a tune I wrote to jam with saxophone legend Jeff Kashiwa.
We really let loose on this one and I think it just feels really fun.

Hi friends, lately some friends have asked me
“Mark where do the songs come from on the Smooth As Silk CD ? “
So I thought maybe it would be cool to explore this with you tune by tune.
Starting with the first track, Walking In Rhythm.
When I first started playing in bands back in the 70’s this tune was very popular and I always enjoyed it then and still do. I will never forget the day in the studio when Trumpet legend Greg Adams came in to do his solo and he enjoyed our version so much,he just raved.
He really enjoyed playing on it and gave us more than we had hoped for.
That’s why he’s a legend....Thanks Greg !
I have received a lot of airplay on Walking In Rhythm on many stations across America and I have to thank all you folks for buying the CD and making my name the #1 position on Google !!
In the meantime I’m still rocking the southland and for all of you who celebrate St. Patrick's Day, I will be performing at the El Dorado on Monday, March 17, 7-11 p.m.
